Ice or Heat?

What is the best to use if you experience pain? General rule of thumb is always use ice! You can’t go wrong or cause any additional pain when using ice.

When there is a sudden onset acute injury or pain, ice will do the job of decreasing inflammation and swelling at the site of injury. This will decrease the pain.

Heat is very good at relaxing tight muscles and drawing blood flow into the area of injury to allow healing and repair to take place. This is great for chronic injuries. Although, if heat is used in an acute injury it will draw more swelling to the area and usually feel worse the next morning.
